The Syracuse Orange of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), on a three-game winning streak, hosted the Monmouth Hawks of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) who came in with one win inside an overall record of 1-9.

Syracuse and Monmouth had only met twice before, with Syracuse winning both, 108-56 in 2012 and 71-50 in 2016.

Their third match-up all-time began with a three from senior guard Joe Girard, III.

The Orange would trail after that before taking the lead with 13:31 remaining in the first half, off of another three by Girard, making it 13-12.

Monmouth would reclaim the lead at the 6:13 mark off of a three by third-year guard Myles Ruth to put the Hawks ahead 27-26.

With 54 seconds left on the game clock in the first half, Syracuse took the lead back, 41-38, with the shot-of-separation coming from Girard once again, another make from beyond the arc.

At the half, the Orange led 42-40.

True freshman forward Maliq Brown had nine points and three rebounds in almost 11 minutes of play off of the bench in the first half.

Monmouth would go on a 7-0 run to take the lead, 49-48, at the 15:46 mark of the second half, with the final three points coming on an old-fashioned three-point play by third-year forward Myles Foster.

There would be three lead changes from there all within 15 seconds, from the 15:27 to the 15:12 mark.

With 8:49 remaining, Syracuse senior center Jesse Edwards reached a double-double for the fifth time in 10 games, grabbing his 10th rebound at this time after having scored his 10th point with exactly 10 minutes to play.

Orange true freshman point guard Judah Mintz came off of the court for the night with 2:46 to go as the crowd cheered and offered a standing ovation. He had 24 points (6-for-12, including 1-for-2 from 3 as well as 11-for-12 at the line), five assists, four steals, one rebound, one turnover, & two fouls in 36 minutes,

With 1:27 remaining, Edwards finished his night, with 12 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks, one assist, two turnovers, and two fouls. He equaled Mintz with four steals.

Mintz led all players on the court with 24 points, followed by Girard with 16, sophomore forward Benny Williams with 13, and Edwards with 10. Williams has scored 13 in back-to-back games with the previous being at home against the Georgetown Hoyas. It is his fourth game in double-figures, with the other two games being at home versus the Colgate Raiders (17) and on neutral court in the Barclays Center against the St. John's Red Storm (11).

First-year guard Jack Collins was atop all Hawks with 20 points, followed by Foster with 17, and Ruth with 11.

After taking the lead, 53-52, with 15:12 left, the Orange never looked back, winning by 15, 86-71, to extend their winning streak to four games, moving to 7-4 overall,

The loss sent the Hawks to 1-10 on the season.

Syracuse is now 3-0 all-time against Monmouth.
