A Letter in Celebration of SU Men's Soccer

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 1:35 PM

Dan,

Good afternoon and I wanted to provide a quick update from the Syracuse University men’s soccer office after our 2012 season came to an unfortunate end at the hands of Georgetown University. Our game can often be very cruel and a fantastic season was ended with a difficult, emotional penalty shootout loss. The boys were absolutely magnificent on Sunday afternoon and represented Syracuse University with a tremendous amount of heart, courage andquality. It has been a remarkable journey and I cannot speak highly enough about this group of young men. This is a special group who have embraced the challenges placed before them and have fully committed to the work required to move forward and evolve as a team. I can proudly reflect that this is the “gutsiest” group of young men I have ever coached. Well done boys!

I would also like to personally thank you for all the wonderful support that we have received this year. By this stage I should not be surprised to see so much Orange in the crowd when we travel and yet I am still in awe at the lengths that our fans go to cheer on this team! It is only when you take a step back that you realize how many people were actually supporting this team down the stretch. So many of our fans, friends, family and SU alumni followed Sunday’s game online and experienced the emotional roller coaster of thegame. Fans were glued to computer screens all across America and far, far away. On Sunday afternoon updates were even provided to the Carrier Dome crowd during the SU Men’s Basketball game! During this magical run sleep patterns have been altered in various time zones to ensure that games were watched live and in their entirety. SU alumni and families have gathered together (physically or through various advances in technology) to cheer on the boys and provide unconditional support. THANK YOU! We all wish that we could have given you another game or two but I know that you share my pride and appreciation of this group.

I would like to say a very, very big thank you to our graduating seniors who represented Syracuse for the last time this past weekend. (We recognized this group on October 20th before our DePaul game but they refused to accept that their careers were over and here we are in late November!!!) Mawuena Agbossoumonde, Evans Asiamah, Nick Bibbs, Mark Brode, Louis Clark, Ted Cribley, Lars Muller and Ryan Tessler have epitomized everything that we are looking for in student-athletes here at Syracuse University. They have carried themselves with great class and dignity during theirtenure here at SU. This group has led by example and provided excellent guidance to our young squad. Thank you guys and good luck!

But this is not the end. Hopefully many of you will be able to join us to celebrate this wonderful season at our Inaugural Benefit Auction and Soccer Reception that will be held at Club 4.4 in the Carrier Dome on Friday, December 7th. This special night will be an opportunity for us to connect with alumni, SU fans, friends and families. I hope that many of you will be able to join us here on campus on December 7th for our Benefit Auction and Reception and tickets can be secured if you click on the invitation. (Please can you ensure that all donated items arrive on campus by Monday, December 3rd)

I look forward to chatting again very soon. Please remember that additional updates can be found at Inside the 18 and hope to see you at Club 44.

We truly appreciate your continued support of the program and please keep cheering on the boys! We all have a lot of fantastic memories from the 2012 season and we will be working extremely hard to ensure that this is a platform from which to continue to move forward as a program.
