Dan,
Good morning and a quick update from the Syracuse University men’s soccer office as we prepare for our trip this weekend to Las Vegas, NV to compete in the UNLV/ Nike tournament. The boys are looking forward to getting back on the road and competing against two quality programs (UNLV and Cal State Fullerton.) We realize that this weekend will be a stern test for our young team and will present new challenges to the program as we travel across the country. But the boys are excited to embrace these challenges and represent Syracuse University on our travels. Not surprisingly, wehave received many offers of assistance from our fans and friends to “chaperone the boys” on this particular trip!
I would also like to thank those fans who made the trip to Oneonta, NY to cheer the boys onto a Mayor's Cup Title It was a fantastic weekend and the boys played some excellent soccer on route to a 4-0 victory over NJIT and a 5-0 victory over St. Bonaventure. I was very proud of how the boys approached each contest and theyplayed some exciting attacking soccer over the weekend. Collectively we defended very well and limited our opponents’ opportunities in front of goal as we secured two valuable shutouts.
The boys take tremendous pride in defending as a unit and have demonstrated a true resilience and mental toughness throughout the early stages of our season. The boys have enjoyed last weekend’s results but now it is time to get back to business and our training pitches. There was a real intensity and energy to practice yesterday and I am sure that there will be a similar commitment and enthusiasm in practice this afternoon. The boys realize that the foundation of our program is the willingness to fully commit to training each and every day as we look to demonstrate continuous improvement as a team and as a program. As a young group we realize that how we practice defines who we are and the boys are certainly not satisfied (orcontent) with their good start to the season. I know that the boys are anxious to continue working hard to make all of our SU supporters proud.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish our women’s SU soccer team all the very best tomorrow night as they open up their final BIG EAST campaign at home against UCONN. Please come out and cheer on the ladies if you have the chance.
Well that about does it for now as we finish preparations for training today. I look forward to chatting again soon and please remember that additional updates can be found at Inside the 18.
We truly appreciate your support of the program and please keep cheering on the boys!
