Dan,

Good afternoon and a quick update from the Syracuse University men’s soccer office. I hope that you have enjoyed the holiday weekend and what better way to celebrate the economic and social contributions of US workers than cheering on our men’s soccer team this evening at the SU Soccer Stadium!!!

Tonight’s home game against Colgate University kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and should be a terrific match-up between two good soccer teams. Colgate is an experienced, talented team that has been selected to repeat as Patriot League Champions and return to the NCAA Tournament again this year. The boys are anxious to get back out onto the pitch and we are all excited to welcome Colgate to the SU Soccer Stadium. Our fan support has been fantastic during ourfirst two home games and you have created a very special atmosphere. I hope that many of our supporters will be back in the stands tonight to cheer on the team! You really do make a difference.

Please also remember that if you are unable to attend any of our games this year at the SU Soccer Stadium you can follow the team live at Orange All Access.

Unfortunately on Friday night we were unable to continue our excellent start to the season and we were defeated 2-1 by Niagara University Credit must be given to a very organized, resilient Niagara team that caught us napping at the start of each half. I was very proud with how the boys responded and kept battling all the way to the final whistle. We certainly learned some valuable lessons on Friday evening that will benefit our young team as we moveforward. We have a good, honest group of young men who are committed to the hard work necessary to improve as a team. The spirit in camp has been terrific and we are all looking forward to the match this evening.

Friday’s result did not detract from the 30th Anniversary celebration of our 1982 BIG EAST Championship team. Coach Shattuck and many of his ’82 team returned to campus to be recognized at half-time of the game. It was fun to observe the interaction of the players and coaching staff of this very special team. The closeness and bonds between the players was immediately apparent and certainly an indicator of their collective strength as a team. I know that our guys enjoyed having the opportunity to interact with ’82 team and willcontinue to work hard to make all of our SU soccer alums proud.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our field hockey team for their fantastic win over UNC on Saturday as they go in search of a National Championship. Campus was a sea of Orange this past weekend and there has been a tremendous energy, excitement and passionate school pride on display at all of our athletic competitions. Hopefully we can keep it going this evening.

Well that about does it for now other than to wish those parents / kids starting school tomorrow morning all the very best with the new school year. The McIntyre household will be starting kindergarten tomorrow (Lyla not me!) and I am not sure that “Good Parenting 101” supports a late kick-off the night before the first day of school… but someone please let the Principal know that it is for a good cause. Now I just have to have the tissues ready for mom when the bus pulls away at 8:04 a.m.!

I look forward to chatting again soon and please remember that additional updates can be found at Inside the 18.

We truly appreciate your support of the program and please keep cheering on the boys!
