The Syracuse Orange bouts with the Cornell Big Red go all the way back to the beginning, with Syracuse gaining their first-ever men's basketball win in their history versus Cornell back in 1901, by a score of 18-15.

This match-up served as the 126th all-time, with the Orange holding a 94-31 record over Cornell, emerging victorious for the last 41-straight games.

The Big Red scored first in this meeting from beyond the arc, courtesy of sophomore guard Nazir Williams out of Nyack, NY, just 45 seconds in.

Cornell did not trail once through the media timeout at the 15:31 mark, where they were ahead 11-7.

Sophomore forward Benny Williams would get his arm in the passing lane and create a steal for Syracuse. On the next possession, he would conenct from long range to bring the score to 15-10 Cornell.

At the second media timeout, the Big Red had still never trailed in the game, ahead 25-16 on the Orange in the Dome at the 7:41 mark.

True freshman forward Maliq Brown would elevate at the rim off of an inbounds pass from senior guard Joe Girard, III, followed by a three by Girard to get Syracuse within four, 25-21.

Behind 35-28 with 2:54 to go in the opening period, the Orange went on a 9-2 run, so despite not taking the lead once in the first half, the Orange tied the game going into the break at 37 apiece when true freshman forward Chris Bell went 1-for-2 at the charity stripe.

Syracuse's defense prevented Cornell to get a shot off with five seconds to go to keep the game tied at the half.

Girad led all scorers at the break with 15 points, going 5-for-8 from the field including 3-for-5 from long range.

Syracuse was 6-for-13 from three-point range in the first half, while Cornell ended the half 7-for-22.

The first lead of the game by the Orange came in the first 18 seconds of the second half when Bell laid the ball up on the team's first possession to give the team a 39-37 lead at the 19:42 mark.

Syracuse went into the media timeout, with 15:36 remaining, on a 10-6 run, ahead 47-43.

From that moment, the Orange would go on an 18-2 run to rise to a 65-45 advantage with 8:14 to play.

The Orange never looked back after taking the lead early in the second half, holding the advantage for the final 19:42 of the game en route to a 78-63 victory, their 95th all-time, and 42nd in a row, versus the Big Red.

As in the first half, Girard led all scorers in the contest overall, with 19 points on 5-for-12 shooting, including 3-for-8 from beyond the arc.

With 11 points and 12 rebounds, senior center Jesse Edwards recorded his 6th double-double in 12 games this season. This is Edwards' third double-double in a row and fourth in the last five games.

Sophomore forward Benny Williams ended with 12 points, giving him three-straight games in double-figures in scoring and his fifth in the 12 games played this season.

Bell concluded the contest with his fourth double-digit scoring game of his young career, with 13, while grabbing his most rebounds in a single game, with five.

Cornell took 48 threes in the game, making 13 of them.

Nazir Williams was the lone Big Red player in double-figures, with 12.

The vicotry moves Syracuse to 8-4 on the season and extends their winning streak to five games, while the loss moves Cornell to 7-3.
