Good afternoon and a quick update from the SU men’s soccer office as we prepare for an exciting evening of soccer here on campus. Tomorrow evening (Tuesday) we welcome our good friends at Herkimer County Community College and Colgate University to the SU Soccer Stadium. Our first game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. as we host Coach Aragon’s talented Herkimer squad who won their ninth NJCAA National Title in the fall. At 7:30 p.m. Herkimer will square off against Colgate University. We will play against Colgate in the final game of the evening at 8:30 p.m. It should be a terrific evening and I hope that many of our supporters will be able to come out and watch some exciting soccer at the SU Soccer Stadium.
The boys are looking forward to having the chance to play at home tomorrow night after returning from a very solid performance on Saturday against a UCONN team that progressed to the Elite Eight in 2012. Although we were on the wrong side of a 1-0 defeat the boys were a little unfortunate not to have earned something more during the ninety minutes. It took a wonderful strike to separate the teams in a very open soccer match. Only a fantastic late save kept Stefanos Stamoulacatos off the score sheet and Anthony Asante had a “goal” called back when on another day (probably any other day!) it would have been allowed and tied up the contest. But overall we will take many positives from this performance and our young players will take tremendous confidence from such a contest.
And changing gears… I hope that many of our alums and SU fans will be able to join us this weekend for our 2013 Alumni Weekend.
The festivities start at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26th with a SU Soccer Social at Faegan's Pub Our SU coaching staff hopes to see many of you on Marshall Street to “kick off” the weekend. Those alums planning on coming out to have a kick around with us on Saturday morning please drop me an email to confirm your attendance and we will see you at the SU Soccer Stadium for a 9:30 a.m. kick off on Saturday, April 27th.
We are also still accepting additional foursomes for our 21st Annual Henry E. Glies Orange Open to be held at The Pompey Club on Saturday, April 27th. Please look to finalize your plans and do not hesitate to drop me an email with any questions about this fun weekend.
And finally our fundraising campaign continues here on campus and I would like to personally thank East Syracuse Chevrolet and other SU supporters who have joined the I'M IN CAMPAIGN here at Syracuse University this week. Your generous support allows us to move our SU soccer program forward. I would ask other SU alums, friends, fans and family to join Syracuse’s I'M IN CAMPAIGN and direct your contribution to the men’s soccer program. Your support really makes a difference here on campus as we look to build a program that will continue to make each of you proud.
Well that about does it for now and I look forward to chatting again after tomorrow night’s games. Thank you for your continued support of the program and please keep cheering on the boys!
