Dan,

Good afternoon and a quick update from the Syracuse University men’s soccer office. Only two days left until our season opener at the SU Soccer Stadium!

I hope that many of our fans, friends and family will be able to join us at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening as we host the University of Albany. Please note that our SU women’s team (1-0) is also in action at 4:00 p.m. so please come out and cheer on our SU student-athletes. If you are physically unable to attend any of our games this year at the SU Soccer Stadium you can follow the team live at Orange All Access.

Thank you for all the well wishes that have been sent into the team this week and the boys will continue to work hard to make you proud this season. Let’s get the season going!!!

I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that we will be celebrating the 30th Anniversary of our 1982 BIG EAST Championship on Friday, August 31st and Saturday, September 1st.

On Friday, August 31st the 1982 BIG EAST Championship team will be recognized during our game against Niagara University (7:00 p.m.) and there will be a post-game celebration with this special group of players and their families. On Saturday, September 1st the 1982 team will be honored during the SU Football Home Opener against Northwestern University in the Carrier Dome at 12:00 p.m. This will be the first game of the 2012 schedule for Coach Marrone’s team and will be aired live on ESPN 2.

The 1982 team was a special group that cemented themselves into SU Athletics folklore and we are very excited to have the opportunity to welcome back this group to campus. A TEAM consisting of: William Derella, Billy Dorante, Rick Fatscher, Dean Foti, James Gentile, Kenneth Hayward, Stuart Jones, John Karanfilovski, Stephen Klaus, Scott Kronick, Robert Lewis, Alec Mahrer, Joe Marino, Matthew Moro, Saied Nikkah, Joe Papaleo, Vasilious Petkopoulos, Jim Powers, Greg Ramin, Dan Reeder, Berthold Reimers, Kevin Smith, Ken Viera, Marcello Vitale, David Woosnam (Manager), Carlos Juarez(Grad Assistant Coach), Neal Moore (Assistant) and Alden Shattuck (Head Coach).

Through the years we have lost contact with several members of the ’82 team so I would ask our “older” supporters to help us track down the last few members of this squad. I would also ask members of the team to confirm your attendance (and family members) with Matt Moro ([email protected]) so that we can finalize all of the details.

And finally I would like to thank those supporters of our soccer program who recently joined Friends of SU Soccer I would like to personally thank Rosario Armato and Original Italian Pizza for becoming the latest member of our “Elite Orange” club. Thank you so much for your generosity and your support! Well that about does it for now and we are getting ready to meet up with the boys again for our final preparations for Friday’s game. I look forward to chatting again soon and please remember that additional updates can be found at Inside the 18.

We truly appreciate your support of the program and please keep cheering on the boys!
