Dan,
Good afternoon and I wanted to provide you a quick update from the Syracuse University men’s soccer office as we all prepare for barbecues, parades and fireworks. (And commiserations for those international readers who do not have Wednesday off from work!) I caught the end of Independence Day on the television late last night and I am really starting to get into the festive spirit… I am sure that I will now be able to watch some of the Godfather trilogy to ensure that the holiday is complete.
Even though the boys are away from campus they are working hard in preparation for our fall campaign. Skylar Thomas and Jordan Murrell are currently participating in a U20 Canadian National Team Training Camp in preparation for next year’s CONCACAF Men’s U-20 Championship and the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey. This camp will be another opportunity for Skylar and Jordan to continue theirdevelopment and showcase their talents in front of the Canadian national staff as they compete against Mexico. Good luck boys!
Our SU Boys’ Soccer Camp and Junior Orange Soccer Camp starts next week and we will have many of our own SU players back in town to work with the kids. It is a fantastic opportunity for us to train with some outstanding young soccer players in our residential camp and also a great way for our players to connect with local kids from the community. Sometimes I think that our own players have more fun than the actual kids at camp! But it should be a terrific week here on campus.
I would also like to thank those supporters of our soccer program who recently joined Friends of SU Soccer. I would like to personally thank John Whearty ’56, Steve Mayo and Mayo Linoleum Works, LLC., for becoming our newest members of Friends of SU Soccer. Thank you so much for your generosity and your support!
I continue to ask all of our supporters to join our current fundraising efforts to further elevate our SU soccer program. Please find a way to take ownership of our program and I hope that you are with us as we look to build a championship caliber program here at Syracuse University. Your support really can (and will) make a difference in the future of our program.
Happy July 4th and I wish you and your family all the very best. We truly appreciate your support of the program and please keep cheering on the boys!
