Battle Scores 16 in 16 to Aid Orange to Win #3

"The Syracuse Orange got out to a slow start in the first half but were able to lean on their second-half play" seems like a line played on a broken record in the first three games this season.

Yet, it stands true for how the Orange have begun their 2017-18 campaign.

Syracuse played from behind to start their contest with the visiting Texas Southern Tigers, starting 0-for-7 from the field, including missing on every opportunity that came from three consecutive offensive rebounds on the same trip down to their basket.

They trailed by five on two separate occasions, once at 5-0 and then at 7-2. before taking their first lead of the game at the 15:37 mark of the first half, at 9-7 courtesy of a layup by true freshman center Bourama Sidibe.

The Orange would lose the advantage in the first half three times to follow before taking a 38-30 lead into halftime.

To show how close the Tigers were competing with the Orange, the game was tied on seven separate occasions in the first half alone.

In the second half, Syracuse came out a totally different team on offense, scoring on five of their first seven attempts, as opposed to their aforementioned 0-for-7 start to the first half. This fast start in the basket helped the Orange to roll out to as much as a 22-point lead.

The closest the Tigers would come to the Orange in the second half was behind by 11, which occurred at the opening of the final 20 minutes of play.

Syracuse sophomore shooting guard Tyus Battle led the way once again offensively, this time scoring 16 points in 16 minutes of play in the second half, guiding the Orange to an 80-67 victory that resulted in a 3-0 start for the squad in head coach Jim Boeheim's 42nd season.
